Port to install new sign; canal site work continues

New signage at the former Superior Fabricators site now owned by the Port of West St. Mary will be installed soon.
A 24 by 8 foot sign will replace the existing sign erected long ago by the former business. It’ll cost $13,000. The facility is leased by LAD Services LLC.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting of the port commission, a pile pollard system has been installed at a cost of $19,200 for four sets.
“These pile clusters are parallel with the new bulkhead and eastward toward the bank,” Executive Director David Allain said. “They will allow spare barges to be parked and tied and some mooring for the dock.”
The port is also continuing right-of-way negotiations for a pumping system at the industrial site, Allain said.
An existing 24-inch pump will be overhauled and Cleco will run service to the pump location, Allain previously reported.
The bulkhead at the site is nearly done, with back-fill from the sheet piling to the bank to be delivered and put in place, engineer Reid Miller said.
