Preparing for International Lighthouse radio event

The International Lighthouse Ham Radio Event will be Saturday at the Everett St. Berry Lighthouse Park as part of the International Lighthouse Weekend. The Southwest Reef Lighthouse will be the local base for ham radio operators that will communicate with other operators across the world at their respective lighthouses. Locally, the Bayouland Emergency Amateur Radio group will be leading the event at the Berwick lighthouse. Promoting the International Lighthouse Weekend that will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. are, from left, Duval Arthur Jr., Homeland Security Emergency Preparedness coordinator; Jacki Ackel, Berwick councilwoman; James Richard, Berwick Police chief; Damon Robison, Berwick councilman; Ian Rose, Coast Guard Marine Science Technician Second Class; Faye Dohring, Coast Guard ensign; James Conan Coppola, Coast Guard ensign; Jackie Price, BEARS; Frank Price, BEARS; Louis Ratcliff, Berwick mayor; and Gwen Cain, Coral Marine Services representative. The Coast Guard will present the colors at the event.
