P&Z takes up rezoning tonight

Members of the St. Mary Planning and Zoning Commission will take up the rezoning issue tonight on the controversial Garden City property being proposed as the development site of a gated apartment complex. The commission is being asked by the parish council to rezone the property on La. 3215 from high density residential to agricultural without property owner Jim Bailey’s consent. Bailey is in the process of selling an 11-acre tract of the property to developer Lloyd Harris for construction of the apartments. A public hearing will be called at 5:45 p.m. with the regular meeting scheduled at 6 p.m. on the fifth floor of the courthouse in Franklin. There are several other items on the agenda.
