Recreational vehicles can enter some Cypremort areas

An ordinance allowing recreational vehicles on properties in certain areas of Cypremort Point was adopted unanimously by the St. Mary Parish Council Wednesday.
The ordinance that amends zoning regulations had been introduced in June by Councilman David Hanagriff.
Hanagriff said the amendment is an attempt at a compromise between people in favor of and against RV usage at Cypremort.
He said the area where specific use permits may be sought is south of the fire substation. It is defined as “south of the Intracoastal Waterway and west of Cote Blanche Island” in the ordinance. Also, he added, the specific use is limited to 6 months during “the summer season.”
In other business the council:
—Introduced an ordinance to take part in the newly created South Central Planning and Development Commission as a member of state Planning and Development District 3.
—Passed resolutions on a professional services agreement with Miller Engineers & Associates, Inc. on renovations to Wilson’s Boat Launch; a cooperative endeavor agreement with the City of Franklin on payment of salaries, expenses and employees of Franklin Ward 3 City Court Marshal’s Office; a $10,000 change order and notice of substantial completion on the Chatsworth Bridge repair project; and endorsement of participation in the Enterprise Zone Program by Amelia Hotel Co., LLC and in the Quality Jobs Program by NFR BioEnergy, LLC.
—Passed a resolution amending the intergovernmental agreement with the Sheriff’s Office on the sharing of gaming funds from Amelia Belle Casino. The sheriff’s $225,000 allocation to provide extra patrols in the area will be discontinued, according to Chief Administrative Officer Henry “Bo” LaGrange. He added that the allocation could be restored at a later date if it is determined the extra security is needed.
—Tabled a request by Fire Protection District 11 Chief Clarence Clark for an $8,000 allocation from the three-tenths percent sales tax collection fund to purchase three new defibrillators.
—Passed a request by Councilmen Glen Hidalgo and Ken Singleton for transfer of up to $15,000 from the Wards 5 and 8 three-tenths percent sales tax fund to Hospital Service District 3 for equipment upgrades.
—Heard from Lewis H. Pitman Jr. who announced his candidacy for District Judge, Division D of the 16th Judicial District Court; and Craig Mathews who announced his candidacy for the District 1 seat on the parish council.
—Appointed Myron Bourque to the Fire Protection District 7 board; Clevelin Broussard to the Board of Adjustments; John P. Trevino Sr. to Recreation District 3; and William Miller to Recreation District 4.
