Seniors will be Lamplighters
This year’s Lamplighter for Christmas under the Lampposts event is the St. Mary Council on Aging.
Members from the St. Mary Council on Aging will participate in the parade and will light the Christmas tree. Old Soul will perform from 7:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. at the pavilion on Teche Drive.
The 2014 Christmas parade and lamp-lighting ceremony are Saturday, Dec. 6. Line-up for the parade will begin at 5 p.m. on Jackson Street, and the parade will begin at 6 p.m. on the corner of Jackson and Main streets. The lamp-lighting ceremony begins immediately after on the Courthouse Square.
Volunteers are needed for Christmas under the Lampposts for a variety of tasks. To volunteer, contact the Office of Community Development at 337-828-6347 or ehidalgo@franklin-la.com.
Walkers, game hosts, vendors and golf cart drivers must complete registration forms to participate in Christmas under the Lampposts. Nonprofit organizations are eligible to become game hosts and vendors for the event. Schools, sports teams, fraternal organizations, Boys Scouts, Girls Scouts, churches and community organizations are encouraged to apply and participate. All game hosts and vendors are responsible for their own setup; however, there is no fee.
“This is a good time for nonprofit organizations to promote their causes and to earn money for events, trips and other service projects for the next year,” Mayor Raymond Harris said. “Walkers and golf carts make our parade the fun event that it is.”
The deadline to register as a walker, game host, vendor or golf cart driver is Wednesday, Nov. 26 at noon.
