St. Mary CAA launches coat drive

The St. Mary Community Action Agency hopes to expand a successful Head Start school supply drive into a successful coat drive, too.
“It has been made known to us,” the agency said in a recent news release, “that over 20 Head Start students have been coming to school without coats in very cold weather. St. Mary Community Action Agency Inc., along with current Miss CAA (Jalisa Stewart) is requesting the assistance of all community partners, social organizations and religious groups, to help raise monetary funds, and/or collect donations to supply some less fortunate students with coats for the winter.”
Stewart has been able to organize a school supply drive with help from her immediate family, as well as her church family and friends. The school supply drive went well, and supplies were donated and collected for some less privileged Head Start students.
“With adequate participation, and assistance from our committed community partners, we will make this coat drive successful,” the agency said.
The students vary in sizes from 4T-6 , and unisex coats are welcome for the boys and girls. The agency hopes to find a coat for each child to wear this winter. The St. Mary CAA is also to work with local and national businesses for donations.
“We want to ensure that each Head Start student is clothed properly, healthy, and able to attend school regularly,” the agency said.
“It would be unfair for a child to miss school activities due to the lack of appropriate clothing.
“Although it may seem as if these may be insignificant contributions, we know that sometimes the smallest acts of kindness mean more than words can express.”
