In St. Mary, Saturday remains trick-or-treating night

Despite the concerns of some parents, a stormy weather forecast won’t change the day and hours for trick-or-treaters in St. Mary Parish.
As of this morning, Morgan City, Berwick, and Patterson’s trick-or-treating hours are still set for 6-8 p.m. Saturday.
The St. Mary Parish president and council members would make the decision to change days for Halloween customary traditions in unincorporated areas. Mayors make the decision for incorporated areas.
Five mayors, along with the parish president and council, had a phone conference to discuss changing the trick-or-treating dates.
“Whatever decision was made, we were going to make it in unity,” Morgan City Mayor Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi said. “And the consensus was from here on out, we were going to celebrate holidays on the days that it’s designed to be celebrated on.”
The mayors present on the call were from Baldwin, Berwick, Franklin, Morgan City and Patterson.
“If the whole parish is going with Saturday, that’s what we’re going with,” Patterson Mayor Rodney Grogan said. “We’re not changing.”
Some St. Mary residents took their trick-or-treating concerns to Facebook:
—“So I guess this means kids in St. Mary Parish won’t be trick or treating with the 100 percent thunderstorms predicted.”
—“Maybe they didn’t see the weather.”
—“So kids will have to fetch candy in the rain.”
The person who replied with “maybe they didn’t see the weather” posted cellphone screen shots of the weather forecast.
“We are going to be on patrol regardless of what day the kids get out,” said St. Mary Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Traci Landry.
In St. Martin Parish, Stephensville changed its trick-or-treating hours to 6-8 p.m. today because of the threat of inclement weather
