Stephensville Elementary School will not have school today due to a power outage in Stephensville.
St. Martin Parish Superin-tendent of Schools Lottie Beebe said Sleca representa-tives estimated at the time that power should be restored around 7:30 a.m. today.
South Louisiana Electric Cooperative Association representative Mark Cald-well said a primary wire burned in Siracusaville due to the cold temperatures between 2 and 2:30 a.m. today. The outage affected Stephensville, Siracusaville and parts of Wyandotte Subdivision in Morgan City.
Power was restored in Si-racusaville around 6:15 a.m., and the majority of Stephensville and Wyandotte are back on. Caldwell said he expected all power would be back on by 8 a.m.
With the cold temperatures and lack of heat for several hours, Beebe said she “didn’t want to place children in the cold and without water and such.”
Beebe said she learned of the situation around 5:30 a.m. and confirmed around 6:15 a.m. that the power was out. The school made parent calls to notify families that school was closed today.
