Top Cops

“Top Cops” of St. Mary were recognized in a special ceremony Monday by the local Mothers Against Drunk Driving chapter. The recognition is part of the annual “Light of Hope” observance in remembrance for all of those who have been affected by a drunk driver. “Top Cops” are honored for their diligence in removing impaired drivers from the roads. These year’s honorees include officers Kevin Stewart, Patterson PD, with 23 DUI arrests; Richard Briscoe, Morgan City PD, 16; Jimmy Richard, MCPD, 15 arrests; Paul Ratcliff, MCPD, 8; Shaun Liner, Berwick PD, 8; and Lee Mikeska, MCPD, 7. State Police troopers honored included Kris Lestage with 11 DUI arrests, Scott Verret with 8 and Corey Jackson with 6. The ceremony included a candlelight vigil and words by 16th Judicial District Court Judge Ed Leonard who has been active with the local chapter since inception 17 years ago.
