Winter weather update

Roger Erickson, warning coordination meteorologist, with the National Weather Service at Lake Charles, issued the following advisory at 3:17 p.m. today.
The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is continuing the winter weather advisory for Hardin, Jasper, Newton, and Tyler counties, as well as Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Evangeline, Rapides, St. Landry, and Vernon parishes tonight into Wednesday morning. Total ice accumulations will be around 0.10 inch in the advisory area.
Rain is expected to increase in coverage this evening across the entire region, before it starts to taper off after midnight. Rain will be ending in southeast Texas between midnight and 3 a.m., central and southwest Louisiana between 2 and 4 a.m., and south central Louisiana around 6 am.
The timing of any freezing rain is related to when temperatures fall at or below 32 F. For east Texas and central Louisiana, temperatures are expected to be 32 F or below beginning between 6 p.m. and midnight, and lasting through 6 to 8 a.m. Wednesday. People in the winter weather advisory area need to stay tuned in case the situation warrants an upgrade to a winter storm warning later tonight.
Further south, along the I-10 corridor from Beaumont to Lake Charles, temperatures won’t fall to 32 F until after the rain ends, between 3 and 6 a.m. There could be a few elevated roads and bridges that could have a few icy spots on them.
