Working the water

The tugboat Miss Becky moves toward the dock Monday at Amelia. Hustle and bustle along the local waterfronts are easy to find, but employment statistics continue to be worrisome. The latest from the Louisiana Workforce Commission said St. Mary’s unemployment rate in June was 10.1 percent, up from 9.3 percent in May and 8.1 percent in June 2015. Total civilian nonfarm employment here was about 21,700, down more than 1,300 from June 2015.
