Morgan City couple arrested on drug charges
A Morgan City couple was arrested Friday on drug possession charges, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Felton Charles Jr., 33, of 11th Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:11 p.m. Friday on the charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of heroin, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws, and resisting an officer.
— Ameedah Charles, 31, of 11th Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:29 p.m. Friday on the charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of heroin, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws, and obstruction of justice.
Morgan City Police Department narcotics detectives, with the assistance of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence on 11th Street in Morgan City.
Upon approaching the residence, investigators observed Felton Charles in the yard of the residence. When Felton Charles observed the approaching officers, he ran from investigators, police said.
He was apprehended moments later. Investigators entered the residence, when a female, identified as Ameedah Charles, was located.
A search of the residence was conducted. Investigators located suspected cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
The location of the incident was within the area of a local church in violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws.
During the search of the residence, investigators discovered that Ameedah Charles had allegedly attempted to dispose of evidence in an attempt to hinder the investigation.
Both Felton Charles and Ameedah Charles were arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where they were booked and incarcerated.
Blair also reported the following arrests:
—Jerrold Arabie , 38, of Ditch Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:54 p.m. Friday on a warrant for probation violation for driving while intoxicated.
Arabie turned himself in to the Morgan City Court in regard to an active warrant held by the 6th Ward Morgan City Court. Arabie was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.
— Keldon O. Jones, 23, of Leo Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 6:11 p.m. Friday on the charges of possession with intent to distribute ecstasy, illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of persons under age 17, and violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling in the area of Cottonwood Street near Victor II Boulevard with a busted front windshield which appeared to be obstructing the drivers view.
A traffic stop was conducted with the assistance of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office when the officer observed three occupants inside the vehicle, identified as Perry ( driver ), Jones (passenger) and a 7-year-old boy.
A driver’s license check was conducted, which revealed that Perry had a suspended driver’s license. During an investigation, Perry and Jones’ behavior made officers suspicious that they may be involved in illegal drug activity.
A search of the vehicle was conducted when the officers located suspected cocaine and ecstasy. The location of the incident was within the area of a local church in violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws.
Both Perry and Jones were placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Jail where they were booked and incarcerated.
—Rickie J. Hayes, 52, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:24 a.m. Saturday for failure to appear on the charge of simple assault.
Hayes was located at a business on La. 182 where Hayes was arrested on an active warrant held by the 6th Ward Morgan City Court. Hayes was jailed.
—Joshua Johnson, 30, of 11th Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:44 a.m. Saturday on the charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute Alprazolam, possession with intent to distribute MDMA (ecstasy), resisting an officer and obstruction of justice.
A patrolling officer observed a subject riding a bicycle in the area of Onstead Street and Federal Avenue. The officer conducted an investigatory stop due to several burglary reports in the area. The driver of the bicycle was identified as Johnson.
During the investigation, Johnson was nervous and became irate with the officer, Blair said. Johnson then ran from the officer on foot, at which time a foot chase ensued. Reports indicate that while chasing Johnson, the officer observed Johnson discard an object.
Johnson was captured moments later. The object observed discarded was recovered and contained suspected cocaine, Alprazolam and ecstasy, Blair said. Johnson was jailed.
—Joseph Breaux Jr., 44, of Monitor Drive in Slidell, was arrested at 4 a.m. Saturday on the charge of driving under suspension.
An officer conducted a traffic stop on La. 182 in regard to the vehicle matching the description of a vehicle involved in an incident at a business. Police learned that the driver of the vehicle, identified as Breaux, had a suspended driver’s license. Breaux was jailed.
—Dwayne Clark, 44, of Verdun Lane in Franklin, was arrested at 10:10 p.m. Saturday on the charge of driving under suspension and on a warrant for probation violation.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle make an improper turn at the intersection of Fourth and Duke streets . A traffic stop was conducted and the driver of the vehicle was identified as Clark. Police learned that Clark had a suspended driver’s license and an active arrest warrant. Clark was jailed.
—Herbert A. Smith, 29, of Labau Street in Baldwin, was arrested at 12:35 a.m. today on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated.
Officers responded to an address on Terrebonne Street in regard to a report of a disturbance. The officers arrived and located Smith standing outside the home. It was later learned Smith had been involved in the alleged disturbance.
Officers suspected that Smith had been drinking and believed Smith was intoxicated. Smith was jailed.
—Joshua P. Roshell , 24, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:48 a.m. today on the charge of domestic abuse battery.
Officers responded to a motel on La. 182 in regard to a 911 hang-up call. The officers arrived and learned that there had been a disturbance inside one of the rooms. Police located two people in the area who were believed to have been involved in the reported disturbance. One was identified as the victim of a battery and the other as Roshell .
During an investigation, officers were told by the victim and a witness to the incident that Roshell had allegedly committed a battery on the victim. Roshell was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert also reported responding to 129 complaints and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Richard Giroir Jr., 56, of St. John Street in Monroe, was arrested at 12:52 a.m. Saturday on the charges of hit and run driving, careless operation of a motor vehicle, and on a warrant for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court.
A deputy patrolling the Amelia area responded to a report of a hit and run crash on Friendship Alley.
While en route, the deputy observed a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the crash in the parking lot of a business on Lake Palourde Road.
Through the course of the investigation, the deputy positively identified the driver of the suspect vehicle as Giroir. The deputy collected evidence that Giroir struck a piece of cement in a resident’s yard and left the area without reporting the crash.
Giroir was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
—Quincy L. Toups, 35, of First Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:27 a.m. Saturday on two warrants for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family.
During booking at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, a correctional officer located the two active warrants for his arrest. No bail is set.
— Lashondra S. Watkins, 25, of Brashear Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 6 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of obstruction of justice by tampering with evidence, possession of Schedule I drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
During booking at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, a correctional officer located the two active warrants for her arrest. No bail is set.
—Brandon Durkins, 26, of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 3:09 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of simple battery.
During booking at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, a correctional officer located the active warrant for his arrest. No bail is set.
—Juan Salazar-Maldonado, 23, of Texas Street in Berwick, was arrested at 10:46 p.m. Sunday on the charges of disturbing the peace (fighting) and criminal damage to property.
—Rigoberto Cruz-Barrios, 30, of Tunnel Boulevard in Houma, was arrested at 10:46 p.m. Friday on the charges of disturbing the peace (fighting) and criminal damage to property.
A deputy responded to a report of a fight at a bar on La. 182 in Amelia. During the course of the investigation, the deputy found evidence that Salazar-Maldonado and Cruz-Barrios were involved in a physical altercation with two other male subjects.
The deputy also learned that during the fight, three pool sticks were damaged. Salazar-Maldonado and Cruz-Barrios were transported to the parish jail for booking. Both subjects were released on summonses to appear in court Sept. 15.
The case remains under investigation at this time.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Christopher Percle , 17, of Clements Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:54 p.m. Friday on warrants for six counts of simple burglary, two counts of attempted simple burglary, and one count of illegal possession of stolen things.
Percle remains jailed. Bail is set at $15,000.
—Kelly Willoughby, 23, of California Street in Berwick, was arrested at 8:10 p.m. Friday on the charge of aggravated second degree battery domestic violence child endangerment.
Willoughby remains jailed. No bail is set.
—Jennifer Mora, 39, of Texas Street in Berwick, was arrested at 1:15 a.m. Sunday on the charges of no insurance, speeding, open container, switched license plates, and an expired motor vehicle inspection sticker.
Mora was released on bail set at $1,550.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Donna Sherri Reed, 45, of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 6:44 p.m. Friday on the charge of theft by shoplifting. Reed was released on a $427 cash fine.
—Desmond Richard, 34, of Mike Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 10:55 a.m. Sunday on the charges of two counts of resisting an officer by flight and theft. Richard was transported to parish jail with no bail set yet.
Chitimacha Police Chief Hal Hutchison reported the following arrest:
—Germany Broussard, 36, of Leona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:33 a.m. Sunday on two Assumption Parish warrants for failure to appear for simple criminal damage to property and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.
There was an additional warrant with Assumption Parish for failure to appear for resisting an officer. He was incarcerated at the parish jail.
