Two arrested in child desertion case

A 34-year-old Morgan City woman was arrested for leaving her 2-year-old child home alone, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.

—Philippian Lewis, 34, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:54 a.m. Saturday on the charge of child desertion.

—Katelynn S. Morgan, 22, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:07 a.m. Saturday on charges of disturbing the peace and possession of marijuana.

Officers responded to an address on Federal Avenue in regard to a small child being left home alone. The officers arrived and spoke with the complainant who identified himself as the father of the child left alone.

The father told the officers that he had gone to the Federal Avenue address to check on the child. When the father didn’t receive an answer, he entered the residence, where he located his 2-year-old child home alone.

During an investigation, the officers identified the mother of the child as Lewis. Reports indicate that Lewis left the child inside the residence while Lewis went to work in Amelia.

Contact was made with Lewis, who was summoned to the residence and arrived moments later. Officers spoke with Lewis about the incident at which time Lewis was placed under arrest.

During the investigation, another individual on scene identified as Morgan began shouting and cursing at the officers.

According to reports, Morgan was told by the officers to lower her voice but Morgan ignored the officer’s warnings and continued shouting at officers, at which time Morgan was placed under arrest.

Both Lewis and Morgan were transported to the Morgan City Police Department Jail. After a thorough search, officers located suspected marijuana on Morgan. Lewis and Morgan were booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.

Blair also reported the following arrests:

—Brennan P. Cenac , 27, of Kraemer Street in Houma, was arrested at 7:45 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for domestic abuse battery.

Cenac was located by officers at Lake End Park where Cenac was arrested on an active warrant held by the 32nd Judicial District Court. Cenac was transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

—Chance Rose, 40, of East 12th Street in Thibodaux, was arrested at 9:39 p.m. Saturday on the charges of possession of Lyrien and domestic abuse battery.

Officers responded to a local motel on La. 182 in regard to a call of a disturbance inside one of the rooms. Officers arrived when it was learned that one of the individuals involved in the disturbance had left before officers arrived.

Given a description, officers located Rose in the area moments later. During an investigation, the officers spoke with a subject inside the room who showed signs of a battery.

The subject, later learned to be the victim of battery, told the officers that the victim and Rose were involved in an argument. Rose committed a battery on the victim during the argument.

Reports indicate that during a search, officers located suspected Lyrien on Rose’s person. Rose was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated.

—Alonzo J. Henry, 21, of Williams Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3:09 a.m. Sunday on the charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.

A patrolling officer observed a suspicious vehicle parked inside Lake End Park. As the officer approached, the vehicle appeared to be occupied by one individual.

An investigational stop was conducted when the officer identified Henry as the occupant of the vehicle. Reports indicate Henry’s behavior made the officer suspicious that Henry may be involved in illegal drug activity.

A search of the vehicle was conducted, when according to reports, the officer located suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a firearm. Henry was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 113 complaints and reported the following arrests:

—Kayla Davis, 27, of the 100 block of Moon Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 4:53 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of careless operation of a motor vehicle and operating a vehicle with no insurance.

A deputy responding to a separate complaint at the residence on Moon Road came into contact with Davis and located an active warrant for arrest. Davis was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.

—Pamela A. Garrison, 42, of the 300 block of Charlotte Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 1:37 p.m. Friday on a warrant for two counts of monetary instrument abuse.

The warrant was issued following an investigation into two counterfeit checks that were cashed at a business in Bayou Vista in an amount totaling $4,150. Garrison turned herself in on the warrant at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City.

She was transported to the parish jail for booking. Garrison was released on bail set at $3,000.

—Kimberly Ruiz, 31, of the 600 block of Utah Street in Berwick, was arrested at 12:21 p.m. Saturday for violation of the parish vicious animals’ ordinance.

A deputy investigating a complaint of a dog bite found evidence that it was Ruiz’s dog that bit a male victim who had been invited into the yard of a residence in Bayou Vista. Ruiz was released on a summons to appear in court Sept. 15.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:

— Alvontray Louis, 19, of Orange Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:48 p.m. Friday on the charges of identity theft and theft of assets of a person who is aged or a person with a disability. Louis remains jailed. No bail is set.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
