Morgan City man accused of stealing tractor

A 27-year-old Morgan City man was arrested for stealing a tractor and on gun and forgery charges, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.

—Terrance M. Bergeron, 27, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 5 p.m. Saturday on the charges of resisting an officer, illegal possession of stolen things, illegal carrying of weapons, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number or mark, and a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of forgery and theft.

A deputy received information regarding the whereabouts of a stolen excavator-bucket tractor and a description of the person seen driving the construction vehicle.

The deputy located the piece of equipment on Richard Road in Ashton and made contact with a male subject matching the description inside a shed on the property.

As the deputy worked to detain the subject, he pulled away and attempted to back further into the dimly lit shed. The subject was then handcuffed, pending further investigation. The subject refused to identify himself to the deputy.

The deputy located a loaded handgun concealed in the subject’s pocket.

During the course of the investigation, the deputy collected statements and other evidence that the subject drove the stolen tractor to the location on Richard Road.

Bergeron was transported to the parish jail for booking and was positively identified. During booking, an active warrant for Bergeron’s arrest was also located. No bail is set.

Hebert also reported responding to 121 complaints and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:

—George D. Harvey III, 34, of Cane Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 5:17 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear for a drug court status conference and failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court.

Harvey was transported from the Harris County jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrant. No bail is set.

— Therold James, 32, of Bayou Vista, an inmate at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, was additionally charged with criminal damage to property and threatening a public official Friday at 1:49 p.m.

Correctional officers at the law enforcement center observed damage to the wall of a cell that housed inmate James.

While being relocated to another area of the facility, James made verbal threats on a correctional officer’s life. James remains incarcerated.

—Mark Romano, 35, of Cherry Street in Houma, was arrested at 7:41 p.m. Saturday on the charges of disturbing the peace (fighting), disturbing the peace (intoxicated), no proof of insurance, failure to report a crash, failure to carry registration in vehicle, and hit and run driving.

A deputy responded to a report of a fight at a business on Lake Palourde Road in Amelia.

While en route, the deputy received information that Romano reportedly left the scene and crashed into a ditch on the La. 182 frontage road.

The deputy arrived at the reported site of the crash and observed a vehicle in the ditch.

Deputies searched the area and located a subject matching the description of the driver covered in mud. He was detained pending an investigation.

The deputy identified the subject as Romano and smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and person.

During the investigation, deputies collected evidence that Romano started a fight earlier in the night with another male subject.

Deputies also found that Romano was operating the pick-up truck without proof of insurance or registration in the vehicle. Romano was transported to the parish jail for booking. Romano was released on bail set at $2,500.

—Juan Vasquez Rosales, 28, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:39 p.m. Sunday for no driver’s license and no insurance.

A deputy investigating a two-vehicle crash on Duhon Boulevard in Amelia made contact with Rosales, one of the drivers.

The deputy found that Rosales was operating the vehicle without a driver’s license and without insurance. Rosales was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 21.

—Ellis L. Whorton , 25, of Brashear Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:25 p.m. Sunday for driving under suspension.

A deputy on U.S. 90 in the Patterson area observed a vehicle cross the fog line multiple times and conducted a traffic stop.

The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Whorton, and found that he was operating the vehicle with a license that was listed as suspended. Whorton was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 21.

— Danayre Smith, 21, of Sydney Jo Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 7:51 p.m. Friday on the charges of possession of marijuana, obstruction of justice, and violation of a controlled dangerous substance law (drug-free zones).

Detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division were patrolling Bayou Vista when they conducted a traffic stop on Southeast Boulevard.

Detectives smelled the strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives gathered evidence that a passenger in the vehicle, Smith, had concealed a bag of marijuana on her person as the vehicle was being stopped.

The bag of marijuana was recovered and another bag of marijuana was located in Smith’s purse. The drugs were located within 2,000 feet of a school, church and park. Smith was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.

Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:

—Gary Mitchell, 56, of Canary Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:01 p.m. Friday on a charge of simple battery.

Officers responded to a residence on Canary Street in regard to a reported battery. The officers arrived where they spoke with a subject, later identified as the victim of a battery, along with several witnesses.

The officers were told that Mitchell and the victim were involved in an argument when Mitchell was alleged to have committed a battery on the victim.

Mitchell, who was present during the investigation, was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

—Renee K. Harris, 44, of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 9 p.m. Saturday on the charges of possession of Tramadol and theft of goods.

An officer responded to a local supermarket on La. 182 in regard to a shoplifter.

The officer arrived and spoke with store employees who told the officer that Harris was observed inside the store taking several items from the shelf and attempting to leave without paying.

The officers located Harris when, according to reports, several of the alleged stolen items were located on Harris.

During the search, Harris was also found to be in possession of Tramadol, a schedule 4 controlled dangerous substance. Harris was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Jail where she was booked and incarcerated.

—Robbie S. Tolbert, 46, of Gray, was arrested at 5 a.m. Sunday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

An officer responded to a call regarding a suspected drunk driver on La. 182. The officer arrived and located a vehicle matching the description provided.

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver of the vehicle was identified as Tolbert. During an investigation, reports indicate that Tolbert was suspected to have been drinking and was believed to be intoxicated.

Tolbert was transported to the Morgan City Police Department for further chemical testing. Tolbert submitted to the Intoxilyzer 5000, yielding a blood alcohol concentration of .102 grams percent.

Tolbert was placed under arrest and booked into the Morgan City Jail where Tolbert was incarcerated.

—Nicole B. Gilmore, 41, of Onstead Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:47 p.m. Sunday on the charges of improper tail lighting and driving under suspension.

A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling on Federal Avenue with a broken tail light. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver of the vehicle was identified as Gilmore.

A driver’s license check revealed that Gilmore had a suspended license. Gilmore was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Jail where she was booked and incarcerated.

—Aisha D. Davis, 37, of Taft Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3 p.m. Friday on a warrant charging her with switched license plate.

Davis was transported from the Patterson Police Department to the Morgan City Police Department on a warrant which stems from an incident that occurred Dec. 19, 2013, where Davis was found to be operating a vehicle with a switched license plate. Davis was jailed.

—Jayme R. Wininger , 20, of Palm Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:49 p.m. Friday on the charge of disturbing the peace.

A patrolling officer responded to a home on Cypress Street in regard to a disturbance. The officer arrived and spoke with the complainant, who told the officer that Wininger walked in front of their home, cursing and shouting.

The officer viewed video of the incident. Wininger was located moments later on Levee Road and jailed.

—Donald Byrd, 47, of Freret Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:48 a.m. Saturday on the charges of simple criminal damage to property and domestic abuse battery.

Officers responded to a home on Freret Street in regard to a disturbance. Police arrived and spoke to a witness of the incident, along with a subject later identified as a victim, who showed signs of a battery.

During the investigation, police observed several damage furniture items inside the home. Police were told that Byrd became angry and damaged furniture inside the home.

During the incident, Byrd was alleged to have committed a battery on the victim and continued damaging clothing items which belonged to the victim. Byrd was located inside the home and taken to jail.

—Amy C. Turner, 42, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:04 p.m. Friday on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

—Erica Alexander, 33, of Guzzetta Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 6:45 p.m. Friday on the charges of possession of synthetic marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and on warrants for failure to appear on the charge of driving under suspension and failure to appear on the charge of improper lighting.

Officers responded to a drug store on Seventh Street in regard to two women that had attempted to steal items from inside the store. Police located Alexander and Turner, who matched the description provided. Officers located a vehicle in the parking lot, which they believed Turner and Alexander were inside.

Police located suspected synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Both Turner and Alexander were jailed.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:

—James Bailey Jr., 22, of Railroad Avenue in Patterson, was arrested at 12:36 a.m. today on a charge for possession of marijuana. Bailey was released on bail set at $2,000.

—Heather Welch, 24, of Jones Street in Berwick, was arrested at 4:34 p.m. Sunday on a charge of criminal mischief six counts. Welch remains jailed. Bail is set at $1,806.

—Jason Scott Jr., 24, of Fairview Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1:56 a.m. Sunday on the charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated first offense and improper lane usage. Scott remains jailed. No bail is set.

—Glen Guidry, 36, of Carline Street in Berwick, was arrested at 9:46 p.m. Saturday on a charge for disturbing the peace by intoxication fourth offense. Guidry remains jailed. Bail is set at $236.

—Alice Hughes, 54, of Victor II Boulevard in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:43 a.m. Saturday on the charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and improper lane usage. Hughes was released on bail set at $1,500.

—Edwin Sanchez Gonzalez, 19, of Fairview Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 12:38 a.m. Saturday on the charges of unlawful possession of fraudulent documents for identification, driving 63 mph in a 45 mph speed zone, and driver must be licensed.

Gonzalez remains jailed. No bail is set.

— Terrel Hall, 56, of Violet Street in Thibodaux, was arrested at 12:44 p.m. Friday on warrants with Berwick Police Department for careless operation of motor vehicle, possession of ecstasy with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hall was transferred to St. Mary Law Enforcement Center.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:

—Cameron Jackson, 17, of Sun Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11 p.m. Friday on a charge for possession of schedule 4 drug. Jackson remains jailed. No bail is set at this time.

—Mariah Jackson, 26, of Gerami Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 11 p.m. Friday on a charge for possession of schedule 4 drug. Jackson remains jailed. No bail is set at this time.

Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported the following arrest:

— Shaljaup Williams, 26, of Ellis Street in Patterson, was arrested at 7:54 p.m. Saturday on the charges of driving under suspension, no seat belt, and turn signal required.

While in the area of Barrow and Lee Charles streets, officers allegedly observed Williams not wearing a seat belt and fail to use a turn signal. Williams was booked, processed, and released on bail set at $1,500.
