Police: Officers ran down suspect on foot
A 34-year-old Morgan City man was captured Sunday after he fled in a vehicle from Morgan City police officers on U.S. 90, eventually running into a ditch and fleeing on foot in Berwick, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Avery D. Metrejean, 34, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:39 p.m. Sunday on the charges of improper lane usage, possession of drug paraphernalia and aggravated flight from an officer.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling on U.S. 90 cross over the white fog line several times. The officer activated the lights and siren on the unit in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop but the vehicle refused to stop.
A vehicle pursuit ensued as the vehicle crossed over the U.S. 90 bridge into Berwick. The vehicle traveled off the roadway to go around other motorists as it turned onto Thorguson Road, reaching speeds of 79 mph in a 45 mph zone.
The vehicle then went off the roadway into a drainage ditch. The driver exited the vehicle and fled from officers on foot. A foot chase ensued, and officers apprehended the driver of the vehicle, identified as Metrejean. Police searched the vehicle and located suspected drug paraphernalia. Metrejean was jailed.
Blair also reported the following arrests:
—Drew Landry, 20, of Delmar Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 5:10 a.m. Friday on the charges of careless operation of a motor vehicle and hit-and-run driving.
Officers responded to the area of U.S. 90 east near Martin Luther King Boulevard in regard to a single vehicle crash. The officers arrived and located a heavily damaged vehicle, which appeared to be abandoned.
During an investigation, reports indicated that officers were told that Landry may have been the driver of the vehicle. Officers went to a residence on Vine Drive where they located Landry.
According to reports, officers discovered evidence that Landry was the driver of the vehicle and that he had fled the scene after the crash. Landry, who appeared to be intoxicated, was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and jailed, police said.
—Lance T. Ashmore, 24, of Trevino Street in Berwick, was arrested at 8:31 p.m. Friday on a charge for disturbing the peace.
Officers responded to a local medical facility on La. 70 in regard to a call of an unruly patient. Officers arrived when they were told by medical staff that Ashmore was inside the facility causing a disturbance.
The officers located Ashmore who, according to reports, was shouting using profane language and appeared to be intoxicated.
Ashmore was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.
—Tara Loupe, 36, of Susan Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:29 a.m. Saturday on a warrant for simple battery.
Loupe was transported from the Franklin Police Department to the Morgan City Police Department in regard to an active warrant held by Morgan City Police.
The warrant was obtained from an incident reported April 26 of an alleged battery. Loupe was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.
—Louella R. Taylor, 53, of Arizona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:40 a.m. Sunday on a charge for simple battery.
An officer responded to a residence on Arizona Street in regard to a call to escorting Taylor while she retrieved some belongings from the residence.
While Taylor began to retrieve her belongs, reports indicate that she became angry and committed a battery on the owner of the residence.
Taylor was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Jail where she was booked and incarcerated.
—Amber S. Bleiler , 37, of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1:48 p.m. Sunday on the charge of resisting an officer.
A patrolling officer observed a woman walking around several closed businesses on La. 182. The officer stopped and spoke with the woman who identified herself as Amber Lilo .
During an investigation, the officer learned that the woman had given a false name and that her true name was Amber S. Bleiler. Bleiler was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 82 complaints and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Herman Jones, 34, of Watson Street in Patterson, was arrested at 9:24 p.m. Saturday on a charge for possession of marijuana.
A deputy conducting a business security check at a motel in Bayou Vista smelled the odor of burning marijuana. The deputy then made contact with Jones and observed him smoking a marijuana cigarette, commonly referred to as a joint. While speaking with Jones, he admitted to the deputy that he had additional marijuana in his motel room.
The deputy located a small amount of the illegal substance in Jones’ room. Jones was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 21.
—Wesley B. Arnold, 21, of La. 22 in Ponchatoula, was arrested at 9:28 a.m. Sunday on a charge for violating the maximum speed limit.
A deputy on U.S. 90 in the Patterson area observed a vehicle traveling 91 mph in a posted 65 mph zone. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Arnold.
Arnold was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 21.
—Samantha Smith, 22, of High Point Road in Baton Rouge, was arrested at 6:54 p.m. Sunday on the charges of traveling in the left lane and driving under suspension.
A deputy on U.S. 90 in the Bayou Vista area observed a vehicle traveling in the left lane with no other traffic in the right lane. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Smith.
While speaking with her, the deputy found that she was operating the vehicle with a license listed as suspended. Smith was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 21.
—Davis Portier , 35, of Camille Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 11:15 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of issuing worthless checks.
A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista made contact with Portier at the Swamp skate park in Bayou Vista.
While speaking with him, the deputy located an active warrant for Portier’s arrest and transported him to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
— Susette Anslum , 41, of Second Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:08 a.m. today on charges for license plate lights required and possession of marijuana.
A deputy patrolling Amelia observed a vehicle with no license plate lights traveling on La. 182 and conducted a traffic stop.
The deputy made contact with the driver, Anslum , and smelled the odor of burning marijuana coming from the vehicle. The deputy received consent to search the car and located a burnt marijuana cigarette.
Anslum was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 21.
—Michael Stewart, 25, of Ashlock Drive in Houston, was arrested at 2:10 a.m. today on a charge for reckless operation of a vehicle.
A deputy responded to a complaint of reckless driving in the parking lot of the Amelia Belle Casino.
The deputy learned from the complainant that a vehicle was “doing doughnuts,” driving in circles in the parking lot.
During the course of the investigation, the deputy located the suspect driver at a bar on La. 182 in Amelia and identified him as Stewart. Stewart was transported to the parish jail for booking. Bail is set at $500.
—Bonnie Bass, 37, of Lincoln Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 3:48 a.m. today on a charge for domestic abuse battery.
—Eternity Bass, 18, of Lincoln Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 3:48 a.m. today on a charge for domestic abuse battery.
A deputy responded to a report of a domestic battery at a residence in Patterson.
Through the investigation, the deputy learned that Bonnie Bass and Eternity Bass were engaged in an argument when they committed a battery upon each other. Both subjects were transported to the parish jail for booking.
No bail is set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Christina Pitre, 37, of Sixth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 5:56 p.m. Friday on a warrant for theft by shoplifting. Pitre remains jailed. Bail is set at $301.
—Dawn Blanchard, 38, of Moon Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 7:50 p.m. Friday on a charge for theft by shoplifting. Blanchard was released on bail set at $301.
—Brennon Moore, 21, of Levet Lane in Franklin, was arrested at 9:50 p.m. Saturday on the charges of license plate lights required and open container in vehicle. Moore was released on bail set at $427.
—Cameron Aucoin, 17, of Bowman Street in Berwick, was arrested at 1:02 a.m. Sunday on a charge for contributing to the delinquency of juveniles. Aucoin was released on bail set at $1,000.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Gloria Verdine, 31, of Live Oak Street in Patterson, was arrested at 12:33 p.m. Friday on a charge for disturbing the peace, language. Verdine was released on bail set at $327.
