Berwick man booked on domestic abuse charge

A 34-year-old Berwick man was arrested for striking a female victim with his fist Friday, said St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert in a news release.
—David Miller, 34, of the 200 block of Jones Street in Berwick, was arrested at 10:40 p.m. Friday on the charge of domestic abuse battery. A deputy observed a vehicle swerving on La. 182 in the Patterson area and conducted a traffic stop.
The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Miller, and a female passenger. The deputy observed bruising on the female subject’s face.
During the traffic stop investigation, the deputy learned that Miller and the female subject were arguing in the vehicle when Miller struck the female victim with his fist.
Miller was transported to the parish jail. He was released on bail set at $2,500.
Hebert reported responding to 118 complaints and reported the following arrests:
—Amber L. Metrejean, 26, of the 200 block of California Street in Berwick, was arrested at 2:33 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family.
With the assistance of a Berwick Police officer, a deputy located Metrejean on California Street on the warrant. She was transported to the parish jail for booking.
Metrejean was released on bail set at $971.43.
—Christine A. Hughes, 32, of the 200 block of Vivian Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:51 p.m. Friday on four warrants for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court.
Hughes was transferred from the Vermillion Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrants. Bail is set at $400,000.
—Tyrique T.L. Jones, 18, of the 1500 block of Plum Street in Patterson, was arrested at 1 a.m. today on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of illegal carrying of weapons, illegal possession of stolen things, and discharge of a firearm from a public road.
A deputy stopped to speak with a male subject walking on La. 182 near Polaris Street in Bayou Vista. The deputy identified the subject as Jones and located the active warrant for his arrest.
Jones was transported to the parish jail for booking. Bail is set at $30,000.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Cassy Bursey, 32, of Orange, Texas, was arrested at 2:29 a.m. Friday on the charges of reckless operation of a vehicle and possession of marijuana less than 14 grams (second offense).
An officer investigating a complaint observed a vehicle being driven in a reckless manner. That officer called a second officer to the area at which time the vehicle was located.
The driver, Bursey, could not produce a valid driver’s license. Bursey was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department.
Once at the Morgan City Police Department Jail, a search was conducted of her property, where officers located suspected marijuana. Bursey was booked and jailed.
—Hedi Hoffpauir, 47, of Teche Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:54 a.m. Friday on the charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a Schedule 1 (marijuana), and possession of a legend drug (trazodone).
—Herman Sonnier, 47, of David Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:54 a.m. Friday on a warrant for Lafayette Parish for possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia (fourth offense).
—Trey Jones, 33, of Ciro Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:54 a.m. Friday on a warrant for Terrebonne Parish and a warrant for St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s office for possession of drug paraphernalia (third offense), possession of marijuana, entering contraband into a penal institution, and resisting by giving false information.
Officers responded to a call from a local business due to a subject being threatened. Officers learned that he was attempting to get money from another subject.
Officers learned that the subjects that had threatened him were still on scene and demanding money for an outstanding drug debt. Officers detained three subjects in a vehicle outside of the business and began to speak with them.
Officers identified the subjects as Jones, Hoffpauir, and Sonnier. Once officers began to speak with the subjects, officers could smell marijuana inside the truck.
Officers gained consent to search the truck and located suspected marijuana along with suspected drug paraphernalia. Officers also located a pill bottle which contained Trazodone belonging to Hoffpauir.
Officers also learned that Jones had identified himself as Trey Smith and was wanted from both Terrebonne and St. Mary parishes. Sonnier was also found to be wanted from Lafayette Parish.
All of the subjects were placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department Jail. Once there, officers located suspected marijuana in Jones’ underwear.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
