Fire damages Bollinger warehouse

A Sunday morning fire at Bollinger Shipyards’ facility in Amelia caused substantial damage to a warehouse, but no one was injured in the fire, Amelia Fire Chief Carl McAllister said.
At about 8 a.m. Sunday, the Amelia Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a warehouse fire at Bollinger’s Amelia facility, McAllister said.
When firefighters arrived on scene, the fire “was well under way” with a lot of flames and smoke coming from the warehouse, McAllister said. Firefighters were able to contain the fire within about 20 minutes. Firefighters stayed on scene for several hours after containing the fire and cleared the scene around 11 a.m. Sunday. The fire didn’t spread to any surrounding buildings, McAllister said.
No injuries were reported in the fire. Investigators determined the cause of the fire may have been electrical, McAllister said. The fire department hasn’t officially classified the damage to the building, but McAllister said the warehouse sustained “considerable damage.”
The Amelia Volunteer Fire Department requested mutual aid from the Morgan City Fire Department, which responded to the fire with a pumper truck.
Nine Amelia firefighters worked the fire, while at least eight Morgan City firefighters assisted, McAllister said. Amelia used two pumper trucks and a ladder truck to fight the fire.
The Daily Review emailed and called Bollinger for comment regarding the fire but hadn’t received a response as of 10:45 a.m. today.
