Football coach qualifies to run against councilman

Central Catholic football coach Tommy Minton has qualified to challenge incumbent Morgan City Council member James R. Fontenot II.

Minton listed his affiliation as "no party." Fontenot is a Republican.

As of late this morning, incumbent Frank "Boo" Grizzaffi has no challengers in his bid for a second term.

Qualifying will end Friday. The primary election will be Nov. 8, the same Tuesday for which the presidential is scheduled.

As of about 11 a.m. today, the following candidates have qualified in Morgan City for the Nov. 8 election, according to the Louisiana secretary of state’s website.
