Leaky roofs are only hitch at schools

Leaky roofs were the only damage St. Mary Parish schools encountered during the weekend rain showers.

“Schools everywhere had leaks,” said St. Mary Parish Superintendent Leonard Armato . “When you have a rain of that magnitude, it always finds bad rooftops.”

But the leaks were “nothing of significance,” Maintenance Supervisor Brad Wiese said.

“We were fortunate we made out very well …, which is very good,” Armato said. As of 8:30 a.m., there were no problems or complaints Armato was aware of, and buses were able to run. But he is concerned about employees who live in Iberia Parish and Youngsville not able to travel.

“We want to make sure that they have what they need to get back on their feet,” Armato said. “We have families that have extended families out there that are suffering. We are definitely flexible.”
