Man accused of striking victim with screwdriver

A 56-year-old Bayou Vista man was arrested after striking a victim in the face with a small screwdriver, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—William Davis Jr., 57, of the 200 block of Mars Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:24 p.m. Wednesday on a charge of aggravated battery.
A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista was flagged down in St. Mary Plaza by a male subject who stated that he had been stabbed in the face. The suspect was identified as a man the victim knew whose name was Davis. Deputies located Davis at his residence and detained him. Through the course of the investigation, deputies learned that Davis believed the victim owed him money and confronted him in the 700 block of Saturn Road. Davis struck the victim in the jaw with an object causing a puncture wound. The victim refused medical attention. Evidence collected during the investigation indicates that the weapon Davis used was a small screwdriver he carries with him to fix his eyeglasses. Davis was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
Hebert reported responding to 35 complaints and reported the following arrests:
—Jeffrey Schexnider, 36, of the 400 block of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, at 5:22 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of improper lane usage, possession of Schedule II (Lortab), and possession of Schedule III (Subutex).
Detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division were traveling down La. 182 in the Bayou Vista area when they observed a car in front of them cross over the solid yellow line and then turn, at a high rate of speed, onto Rose Lane. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Schexnider.
While speaking with Schexnider, detectives received consent to search and located a pill and a Lortab pill inside an over the counter drug bottle. Detectives learned that Schexnider did not have a valid prescription for the pills. He was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
—Gerald Crooks, 54, of the 300 block of Degravelle Road in Amelia, at 8:37 p.m. Wednesday on a charge for possession of drug paraphernalia (third offense).
Narcotics detectives patrolling the Morgan City area observed the driver of a car fail to signal a turn onto Greenwood Street. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Crooks.
The Morgan City Police Department K-9 unit arrived to assist and indicated a response on the vehicle. During a search of the car, detectives located steel wool and several pieces of a glass pipe used to smoke crack cocaine.
Also located in the vehicle was a socket that had been used as a crack pipe.
Detectives additionally learned that Crooks had two prior arrests for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Crooks was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
