One dead in Centerville fire

Staff Report

State Fire Marshal investigators are piecing together the circumstances surrounding a pre-dawn Thursday residential structure fire in Centerville where the body of a man was found, State Fire Marshal’s Office Chief Brant Thompson said in a news release.
Investigators were summoned after firefighters from the Franklin Fire Department responded to 113 Bonnie Road in Centerville just before 2 a.m. Thursday, upon the report of a manufactured home fire. Upon their arrival, firefighters found the residence fully engulfed in flames.
After a portion of the metal roof spanning the residence was removed to better facilitate suppression efforts, firefighters discovered the body of homeowner Stanley Damron, 67, in the kitchen of the structure, which was destroyed as a result of the fire, the release said.
After being processed by investigators, the victim’s body was released to the St. Mary Parish coroner for autopsy.
Due to the damage inflicted to the structure, investigators have yet to determine the precise origin and cause of the fire. Investigators did, however, learn that Damron was a heavy smoker and one who stored and maintained an unusually large amount of items in his home, the release said.
The investigation into the cause of this fire continues.
