Supplies still being collected for flood victims
Local community members are still accepting donations of items to be sent to flood victims in the Baton Rouge and Lafayette areas.
The old Royal Eagle building, located at 7397 La. 182 in Morgan City, next to Tiger Island Hardware in Morgan City is accepting donations of for flood victims through from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Friday. At the end of the week, organizers will determine if there’s still a need for more items.
Organizers also collecting items from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Thursday at the Bayou Vista Community Center, 1333 Belleview Street in Bayou Vista, to send to people affected by the flooding. Hygiene items and hairbrushes, ponytail holders, feminine products and underwear are still needed. With the exception of underwear, organizers have already collected enough clothing to send to affected areas.
People who have evacuated their homes and need clothes may also pick up those items at the center. Volunteers will pull clothes for people who need them. Items are being collected in a side room at the Bayou Vista Community Center. From the center’s main entrance, the room is through the double doors on the right.
Swiftships shipyard, 1105 Levee Road in Morgan City, is also collecting bottled water, diapers, toiletries, canned goods, dog and cat food, clothing in good condition, school uniforms, blankets and pillows. Bring these items to the shipyard by 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to be loaded into a shipping container.
C-Tech Machine and Fabrication, 3446 La. 182 in Berwick, was accepting donations through 4 p.m. today. Organizers planned to send their fourth 18-wheeler truckload of donated items today to wherever the supplies are needed.
The Berwick Civic Center is accepting donations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Wednesday.
