Three fires heavily damage two homes
Three fires in Morgan City Friday left two homes with major damage, but only two people received minor injuries as a result of the fires.
At about 3:10 p.m. Friday, the Morgan City Fire Department responded to a report of smoke showing in the 7000 block of Railroad Avenue, Assistant Fire Chief John Price said. The occupants of the home were out of the residence by the time firefighters arrived, Price said. One person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Morgan City Fire Department personnel sheltered residents inside a fire truck due to the cold weather, Price said.
The fire started in a dryer, and firefighters mostly contained the fire to the dryer, Price said. Twenty-one personnel responded to the scene, which they cleared by 4:10 p.m. The home sustained just smoke damage as a result of the dryer fire, Price said.
At 5:29 p.m. Friday, firefighters were called to a structure fire at a mobile home in the 100 block of 11th Street.
Upon arrival, fire and smoke was showing from the center of the mobile home, Price said. The mobile home sustained heavy damage. The fire started in a closet, but the cause is still under investigation, he said.
While on scene of the 11th Street mobile home fire, firefighters responded at 6:18 p.m. Friday to a report of an oven fire in the 300 block of Bush Street.
Heavy smoke was emitting from the Bush Street home on arrival. The home received severe damage, Price said. Thirty-one firefighters went to the fire on Bush Street. One firefighter received minor injuries, but no residents were injured, Price said. Firefighters were looking in the kitchen area for the cause of the fire. The scene was cleared at 7:47 p.m. Friday.
