(Updated) Police: Shooting victim’s condition improves
A woman, who was one of four people shot Friday in Berwick, was moved from an intensive care unit to a regular room Monday at Teche Regional Medical Center after her condition greatly improved, Police Chief James Richard said.
Also on Monday, Berwick police were able to interview the woman, who doesn’t appear to have any life-threatening injuries, Richard said. She had been listed in critical but stable condition before being moved out of intensive care.
The investigation into the shooting continues, and police haven’t identified any possible suspects.
A total three women and one man sustained serious injuries after they were each shot once Friday night in Berwick. Three of the victims were released from hospitals over the weekend.
At least 30 rounds were fired during the incident from what appears to have been some type of 9mm semi-automatic weapon, and multiple weapons may have been fired, Richard said.
About 10:45 p.m. Friday, Berwick police received a call from the area of Sixth and Utah streets by Prince Hall Masonic Lodge, located in the 3100 block of Sixth Street, where a party was going on.
Police learned there was an altercation inside the lodge, and it continued outside the lodge, where the shooting occurred. Investigators don’t know what caused the altercation to occur, Richard said.
Any witnesses or anyone with knowledge of what may have occurred is asked to contact the Berwick Police Department at 985-384-7710.
