Staff Report

A St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy, a civilian and a suspect were all injured after authorities responded to a report of shooting Sunday morning in Ashton, state police said.
State police have not yet released the identity of the suspect, who was captured Sunday.
At 6:10 a.m. Sunday, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of a possible shooting at a residence on Dumesnil Road in Ashton, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
Upon arrival, deputies located a man with injuries. Deputies were successful in removing the man from the scene, the release said. The injured man was transported to a hospital.
While continuing to secure the scene, deputies were fired upon and took cover, the release said. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team was activated.
Additional agencies responded to assist including the Louisiana State Police, the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office. While the deputies were being removed from the scene, they came under fire again. One deputy was injured and transported to a hospital, the release said.
On Sunday afternoon, the sheriff’s office reported that the captured suspect was injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment. The investigation was turned over to state police.
State Trooper Brooks David said investigators were still processing the scene until early Monday morning. State police are still investigating the incident, gathering evidence and speaking to witnesses in the case, David said.
“When the facts start coming out that the evidence leads us to, we’ll start releasing more information,” David said.
Police haven’t released any names of the three people injured in the incident. As of Sunday, the alleged shooter and civilian were all hospitalized in stable condition, David said.
Sheriff's Office Spokeswoman Traci Landry said the sheriff's deputy injured in the shooting continued to be treated in the hospital Monday afternoon. The deputy is listed in stable condition and was able to visit with fellow deputies yesterday evening, Landry said. Sheriff Mark Hebert expressed his thanks to everyone for their outpouring of concern and support, Landry said.
David confirmed that the deputy’s injuries were caused by a gunshot wound, but couldn’t confirm the cause of the suspect’s or civilian’s injuries, he said.
“As soon as we get more information that’s factual, we’ll go ahead and release it,” David said.
U.S. 90 from La. 318 to La. 83 was temporarily shut down Sunday during a standoff with the suspect.
