For those in need of uniforms for the school year beginning Aug. 7, there are several options.
Word of Life Family Church in Patterson is holding a Back-to-School Fair Saturday.
Children must be present to receive free pencils, pens, paper, colors, glue, shoes and uniforms. Availability is while supplies last and subject to size availability.
The event will be held at the church, 108 Ryan Dr., in Patterson, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
On Aug. 2, New Salem Baptist Church in Patterson will hold its second annual Uniforms for School Kids.
The event distributes two sets of uniforms per child, and children must attend.
A variety of sizes is available.
The event will be held at the church, 1412 Cherry St., in Patterson, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Finally, most retail purchases in Louisiana will be exempt from the 4 percent state sales tax on Aug. 1 and Aug. 2.
The 2014 Louisiana Annual Sales Tax Holiday exempts the first $2,500 of the purchase price of each eligible item for non-business use when the customer buys and accepts delivery of eligible property or places property on layaway.
The exemption applies only to the 4 percent state sales tax. Local sales taxes will still apply unless the local taxing authority creates its own exemption.
Visit www.revenue.louisiana. gov/taxholiday for a full list of exemption.
