No arrests in Bayou Vista man’s death

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office is following all leads in the homicide investigation of the death of Willie Francis, 23, of Bayou Vista, Traci Landry, St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, said Monday.
Francis’ body was found Wednesday off La. 182 between Old Spanish Trail and Tournament Boulevard in Berwick 12 hours after he was last heard from Oct. 30.
On Oct. 29, Francis’ vehicle was found by a deputy on the side of U.S. 90 with the engine running and the door open near Cameron in Bayou Vista,
On Oct. 27, Francis and his father, Willie Webb Sr., were reportedly assaulted with a firearm at 5:44 p.m., Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch said last week.
Police are investigating his death as a homicide, but have not drawn a connection between the reported assault and the death of Francis, Crouch said last week.
Two arrests have been made in the assault with a firearm incident. Taj Broussard, 17, of Lafayette, was arrested Thursday on warrants for aggravated assault with a firearm and resisting an officer. Joshua Donnell Robertson, 22, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for aggravated assault with a firearm, resisting an officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Arrest warrants were secured for Broussard and Robertson after they threatened the pair with a handgun during an argument in the Fifth Street area of Morgan City Sunday, Crouch said.
A third man was listed as a suspect in the initial report, but a warrant had not been issued for his arrest as of last week, Crouch said.
Landry said the aggravated assault with a firearm in Morgan City is one of the leads the sheriff’s office is investigating.
Patterson Police Detective Larry Jones said police released information to the sheriff’s office on a burglary that may have a connection to the homicide investigation. Jones did not say when the burglary occurred.
The Daily Review has not received any information as to Francis’ cause of death. Calls to the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office had not been returned as of this morning.
The homicide is being investigated jointly by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and Berwick Police Department.
Anyone with information regarding the homicide is asked to contact the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-384-1622 or 337-828-1960.
