ULL grad students win regional oil geology contest

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — The University of Louisiana at Lafayette says a team of master's degree geology students has won a regional petroleum geology contest and will compete April 4-6 in the international finals.
Louisiana-Lafayette's team competed against students from 12 other Gulf state universities, analyzing real data and explaining what they felt would be the best place to drill.
The finals for the Imperial Barrel Award will be in Houston from April 4-6, during the annual meeting of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
They'll compete with students from five other U.S. regions and six world regions — Africa, Canada, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia/Pacific.
The contest has a top prize of $20,000 in cash and scholarships.
