Walnut Street Barge closure decision announced

The Morgan City mayor’s office and St. Mary Parish Drainage District 2 have reached an agreement to close the Walnut Street Barge during any time of extreme rainfall or rising water level in Lake Palourde, according to a drainage district news release.
The agreement was part of an effort to address street flooding issues in the Lakeside area that causes standing water on residential roadways. The barge will remain closed until waters recede with Drainage District 2 monitoring water levels on a daily basis, the release stated.
