Sheriff’s office hosts Leadership St. Mary

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office recently hosted members of Leadership St. Mary with a visit that included weapons and TASER demonstrations and a tour of the sheriff’s office mobile command center, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
The program’s mission is to recruit and develop leaders who will be active and involved in moving St. Mary Parish into the 21st century, the release stated. The St. Mary Chamber of Commerce coordinates the program.
On June 19, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office hosted 16 Leadership St. Mary members at its headquarters in Franklin. St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jonathan Booth began the presentation with an overview of the Sheriff’s Office and concluded with a demonstration of some tools used by law enforcement including the TASER.
After lunch, which was provided by the kitchen at the parish jail, Leadership St. Mary members travelled to the shooting range for vehicle entry and weapons demonstrations by the Special Response Team and St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Regional Training Academy, the release stated.
Members also heard presentations about the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office mobile command center and dive team. The group concluded their visit with a tour of the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center led by Sheriff Mark Hebert.
