Tri-City area 7-8-year-old all-stars conclude seasons

No Tri-City area teams advanced out of 7- and 8-year-old district Dixie Youth action this weekend at Peltier Park.
Morgan City, St. Mary Central and Patterson all were in action but failed to advance.
St. Mary Central finished 2-3 in the tournament with wins against the Thibodaux Americans Thursday and Patterson Friday but dropped its next three games to Franklin and the Thibodaux Nationals Saturday and Morgan City Sunday.
No individual scores or stats were available.
St. Mary Central coach Joey Richard congratulated district champion Franklin, who finished undefeated, and runner-up Thibodaux Nationals, whose only loss was to Franklin. Both will be advancing to the state tournament in Pineville, which is set for July 10-13.
Richard said he would be pulling for them in the state tournament.
Patterson had a tough time at district as the squad went 0-5 and was hampered by really late starts to their games Thursday and Friday due to weather. Friday’s game, originally set for 8 p.m., didn’t begin until 11 p.m., Patterson coach Mike Dinger said.
Patterson also had to play the first game of the day Saturday, which was pushed back approximately an hour from its 9:30 a.m. start, and the last contest Saturday.
While he agreed the adversity didn’t help his squad, which features six 7-year-olds playing in their first district tournament, Dinger said today he wasn’t upset at anyone about how things played out, noting the team’s schedule was just simply what Patterson drew beforehand.
“We played some good games, but we could never keep it going,” he said.
No individual scores or statistics were available from the contests.
Morgan City also competed at the district tournament but no scores or stats were available this morning.
