Head Start screenings
St. Mary Community Action Agency Head Start’s Health and Disability staff are working with Head Start families, teaching staff and community partners to complete mandated screenings for developmental, sensory and behavioral concerns. In collaboration with children’s parents and within 45 calendar days of the child’s entry into the program, children undergo age appropriate screenings to identify concerns regarding a child’s developmental, sensory (visual and auditory), behavioral, motor, language, social, cognitive, perceptual and emotional skills. Nicholls State University Department of Communicative Disorders students were recently at St. Mary CAA’s central office to provide speech, language and hearing screenings for Peter Pan and Bambi Head Start children. These were the last of these particular screenings. The Louisiana Lions Club Cub Sight Program is in the process of vision screenings of all Head Start children. The last vision screening is Oct. 2 at Peter Pan.
