State horseshoe tourney held at Kemper Williams

The Louisiana State Singles Horseshoe Pitching Championships were held Saturday at Kemper Williams Park.
The event was hosted by the Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association, and area horseshoe pitchers fared well. Angela Percle of Morgan City finishing first in Class A Women, Tim Gilmore of Bayou Vista, first in Class A Elders, Gerald Prados of Centerville, first in Class C Men and Tracy Verret of Bayou Vista, first in Class C women.
Angela Percle finished 5-1 mark and a 48.4 ringer percentage, while Gilmore was 5-0 with a ringer percentage of 57.
Prados was 5-0 with a ringer percentage of 29, while Verret was 5-0 with a ringer percentage of 23.1.
Other area participants who placed were Jimmy Percle of Morgan City, second in Class A Men, Clyde Landry of Pierre Part, second in Class B Men, Clay Canty of Morgan City, second in Class C Men, Randy Giroir of Berwick, third in Class E Men and Jamie Granger of Morgan City, third in Class C women.
Jimmy Percle finished with a 3-2 mark and a ringer percentage of 38, while Landry had a 3-2 mark and a ringer percentage of 40.
Canty was 3-2 with a 25.5 ringer percentage, while Giroir was 4-2 with a ringer percentage of 22.5 and Granger, 3-2 with a ringer percentage of 7.5
Other Class winners were Ricky Richard of Church Point, Sebastian Langley of Lacassine in Class Juniors, David Reed of Welsh in Class B Men, Mike Ricardo of Keithville in Class D Men, Roosevelt Morse of Shreveport in Class E Men, James Breedlove of Shreveport in Class F Men and Nancy Woods of Monroe in Class B Women.
Richard finished 5-0 with a 50.8 ringer percentage, while Langley was 3-1 with a ringer percentage of 14.4.
Reed was 5-0 with a 46.5 ringer percentage and Ricardo, 5-0 with a 24.0 ringer percentage.
Morse was 6-1 with a ringer percentage of 27.1, Breedlove, 5-0 with a ringer percentage of 16.3 and Woods, 5-0 with a ringer percentage of 21.5
In Class A Women’s action, Percle defeated Pat Pertuit of Marrero in a 40-shoe playoff game for the class and women’s state championship after both were tied in regulation. Pertuit, of Marrero, finished 4-2 with a 53.6 ringer percentage.
A playoff also was needed in Class E Men’s action as Morse, Pousson and Giroir all were tied after regulation. Pousson had a bye in the playoff and Morse defeated Giroir before topping Pousson in a 40-show playoff. Pousson, of Lacassine, finished 4-2 with a ringer percentage of 27.0
Gilmore, Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association’s publicity representative, announced that the organization will host the newly formed Louisiana Open Horseshoe Tournament in 2015. The sanctioned tournament will be coed and scratch. It will feature the state’s top pitchers in their ringer percentage brackets.
