Berwick looking to bounce back vs. Jeanerette

We’re going to have to gang tackle on defense and exploit what I think is an advantage for us on offense.

Berwick looks to regroup after fumbles and injuries doomed the Panthers in their homecoming game Friday, a 56-31 loss to KIPP Renaissance.
Berwick (1-3) travels to face Jeanerette (1-3) Friday to clash with the Tigers.
In last week’s loss, the Panthers lost fumbles on the first plays of its first two drives. Berwick fumbled five times in the game, losing four.
“It’s the same old thing with us,” Berwick head coach Craig Brodie said after the game. “We spot people points starting games out, fumble the football.”
However, Berwick running back Braden Billiot then responded with a 64-yard touchdown run on the first play of Berwick’s third drive.
The first quarter ended with the score tied at 14.
Billiot, who has been the Panthers best running back this season, was injured during the game. He carried six times for 59 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game.
“We’re waiting to see if he can go Friday,” Brodie said. “Luckily for us, the injury wasn’t as bad as we feared, and if he plays, he will only play on offense.”
Billiot has carried 29 times for 321 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Panthers.
In Friday’s contest, quarterback Jeremy Boudreaux picked up the rushing slack, gaining 95 yards on 17 carries. Boudreaux has carried 51 times for 177 yards and a touchdown.
He also has completed 33-of-68 passes for 434 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions.
Kenan Jones also had three carries for 32 yards and a score a week ago.
Berwick will be without dual-threat senior Justin Morvant, who has been ruled out for Friday’s game with an injury, Brodie said.
Brodie called the KIPP Renaissance game a “nightmare” for the Panthers, noting the only positive was the team was able to get some of its younger players some experience.
“We were extremely one dimensional because of injuries,” Brodie said. “We had to throw the ball, and KIPP took full advantage of that.”
This week’s opponent, Jeanerette (1-3), lost to McMain 55-22 Friday.
“They’re very similar to the team we faced last year,” Brodie said. “They’re very athletic. They have some weapons.”
Berwick beat Jeanerette last season.
“We’re going to have to gang tackle on defense and exploit what I think is an advantage for us on offense,” Brodie said. “They’re an attack defense, and they often play man-to-man on the receivers and we have good athletes there with good size.”
Audwin Williams leads the Panthers receivers with 18 catches for 281 yards and a touchdown, while Jones has five catches for 84 yards and three scores.
Friday’s kickoff is 7 p.m.
