Jeanerette Museum presents American music by Gal Holiday
Take a trip through the history of American music when Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue perform at 2 p.m. on Nov. 9 at the Jeanerette Museum located at 500 E. Main St. The performance is free and open to all ages, according to the Jeanerette Museum’s news release.
Along with the music, join the museum as it uncovers a time capsule placed on the grounds during the tour of the Smithsonian’s Yesterdays’ Tomorrows exhibit. The capsule was buried 10 years ago and contains items placed in it by school children and other members of the community, the release stated.
Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue will perform American classics including Louisiana favorites. Band members will introduce their instruments with an emphasis placed on their importance to different styles of the genre. Learn about the roots of this popular American musical tradition while enjoying the opportunity to participate in a traveling “Louisiana Hayride.”
Having worked for years in barrooms and honky tonks playing more than 150 shows a year, Gal Holiday is known for its honest and authentic live performances, the news release stated. The band found that the show translated for other audiences and have found success playing at festivals and for private events including weddings and children’s shows.
Since its inception, the band has been led by singer/songwriter Vanessa Niemann. Since leaving behind her childhood days of running barefoot with a tambourine in the Appalachians, Niemann keeps true to her mountain root, the release stated.
The band keeps its country cadence with bass player and music director David Brouillette, once a small-town Louisiana boy whose first start in the music industry began with lobbying a local pizza parlor to let him play.
