Funeral services for Daniel Joseph Rogers Sr. will be held Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at 1 p.m., at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin. He will be laid to rest in the Franklin Cemetery. Father Lloyd Benoit will officiate the services. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Ibert’s Mortuary, from 11 a.m. until time of service. Serving as pallbearers will be his six grandsons, Kyle Bonin, Manuel Rogers, Lee Mallet, Robert Mallet, D.J. Rogers and Darryl Rogers.
Mr. Daniel was born in Louisa, Louisiana on July 11, 1929, the eldest of seven children born to the late Cyrus P. Rogers and the late Emily Lormand Rogers. He was a former longtime resident of Franklin and Mamou, and was a resident of Breaux Bridge since 2006. Mr. Daniel was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II with the Navy Construction Battalion. His favorite pastime was music and dancing, especially to The Rebels. On Saturday, October 18, 2014, at St. Agnes Health Care Center in Breaux Bridge, Mr. Daniel went home to the Lord at the age of 85.
Survivors include five children, Daniel J. Rogers Jr. and his wife, Donna Hebert Rogers of Broussard; Donna R. Mallet and her husband, Robert Mallet, of Arnaudville; Sandra R. Tamporello and her husband, Glenn Tamporello, of Breaux Bridge; Susan R. Bonin and her husband, Ronald Bonin Jr., of Breaux Bridge; and Roxane R. Derouen and her husband, Myron Derouen, of New Iberia; one brother, C.J. Rogers and his wife, Sylvia, of Carencro; three sisters, Velma R. Belanger and her husband, Robert, of Jeanerette; Loretta R. Clements and her companion, Jimmy Romero, of New Iberia; and Ann R. Trahan and her husband, Jessie, of Abbeville; a sister-in-law, Nelda Rogers of Franklin; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Sadie Bodin Rogers; one granddaughter, Amy Tamporello; two brothers, Alvoid Rogers and Harold Rogers; and his longtime companion, Carrie Jordan.
