Parish council meets Wednesday

St. Mary Parish Council members meet in regular session Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Items on the agenda include a long list of resolutions seeking inclusion in the 2015 state capital outlay budget for various projects.
Other resolutions up for consideration include one declaring the intent to create a road district and another permitting a variance to allow for the sale of package liquor at 1534 Cypremort Road, the former Linda’s One Stop establishment in Four Corners.
Chief Administrative Officer Henry “Bo” LaGrange said if passed the road district would encompass the entire parish with the exclusion of Morgan City. Voters from the rest of the parish would then be asked to approve a road improvement bond package to be repaid with a 1 mill property tax that would basically be a shift of millage currently dedicated to the library debt. He said that mileage is now 1¼ mills and would drop to one-quarter mill. Morgan LaGrange said Morgan City would be excluded from the road district since it already levies a three-tenths sales tax dedicated to road improvements.
Proposed ordinances up for consideration include one to rezone property Diane Matthews at 144 Yellow Bayou Road in Centerville from single family residential to existing neighborhood to allow for placement of a motor home. Another proposed ordinance would increase the membership of Sewerage District 8 board from three members to five. A public hearing will be called at 5:45 p.m. on the proposed ordinances.
The council also is slated to hear from representatives from Touchstone Golf Management Co. who were invited by Councilman Glen Hidalgo to give a presentation on the benefits a private management company can bring to the Atchafalaya at Idlewild Golf Course.
The council meets on the fifth floor of the courthouse located at 500 Main St. in Franklin.
