Help sought to ‘Clean the Pond’

The Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau is hosting “Operation Clean the Pond” to get rid of giant salvinia, an invasive species, in the ponds located behind their Franklin visitors center
It will be held Nov. 1 at the center, 15307 U.S. 90 West Frontage Road in Franklin from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to help with the clean-up. Anyone willing to help can contact Bridget Roy at (337) 828-2555 to sign up. Volunteers are asked to wear water shoes or rubber boots and to bring a leaf rake, net on pole, life jacket and a change of clothes, in the event that you get wet.
Removal of the giant salvinia is an environmentally friendly way of getting rid of the grass without herbicides. Ridding the ponds of giant salvinia will lead to a healthier fish habitat.
