Mary Virginia Newton Arledge

Mary Newton “Ginny” Arledge, 90, born Dec. 28, 1923, in Marshall, Texas, was a resident of Baton Rouge and went to her eternal rest on Nov. 5, 2014, in Baton Rouge.
Mary Arledge was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Ezra Arledge; her father, Drew Warren Newton; her mother, Thelma Dean Faulkinberry Newton; and her sister and brother-in-law, Dillie Ann Newton LeSuer and Wilbert Russell LeSuer.
She is survived by her twin daughters, Ginger Arledge Price and her husband, Gregory A. Price, of Morgan City, and Sandra Arledge Turpin and her husband, Kenneth R. Turpin, of Baton Rouge; her grandchildren, Jason A. Price, of Morgan City, Jeffrey A. Price and his wife, Dr. Julie Steele Price, of Morgan City, Jaclyn Price Landry and her husband, Matthew D. Landry, of Baton Rouge, Leonard W. Turpin and his wife, Marquin Norris Turpin, of Houston, and Dr. Kyla Turpin Ross and her husband, Dr. James D. Ross, of Decatur, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Sara Price, Emily Price, Avery Price, Isaac Price, Cleo Price, Joseph Landry, Samuel Landry, Max Turpin, Ella Ross and Cameron Ross.
Mary was a loving mother and wife, dedicating her life to her family, her profession, and her church. She was an educator who taught seventh and eighth grade social studies in Buras for 13 years and mathematics at Brame Junior High in Alexandria until she retired. Mary received her education in the Marshall, Texas, public school system and then graduated from North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, Texas. She moved to Pineville after the death of her husband, Leonard, who had been working for Gulf Oil Corporation in Buras, before finally relocating to Baton Rouge in 1996.
Mary was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge.
Services for Mary Virginia Newton Arledge will be held on Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, with visitation at Sullivan’s Funeral Home, 100 East Travis St., Marshall, Texas, from 10 a.m. to noon followed by services conducted in the Sullivan’s Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Rodger Garbs. Graveside services will follow at Algoma Cemetery, Highway 80, Marshall, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Gregory A. Price, Kenneth R. Turpin, Jason A. Price, Jeffrey A. Price, Leonard W. Turpin and Matthew D. Landry. Honorary pallbearers are Jaclyn Price Landry and Dr. Kyla Ross Turpin
Special thanks to the staff at The Haven at Windermere Assisted Living Facility and The Hospice of Baton Rouge for the compassionate and loving care provided our mother. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in the memory of Mary Virginia Newton Arledge to the “Debt Retirement Fund” of Jefferson United Methodist Church, 10328 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70809. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sullivan’s Funeral Home, Marshall, Texas.
