COY LEE SCOTT
LAKELAND – Mr. Coy Lee Scott, 81, a resident of Lakeland, Florida, passed away Friday, November 14, 2014 due to complications with Dementia.
Mr. Scott was born February 23, 1933 in Manchester, Tennessee, the son to the late Oren Selman Scott and Vada Sue Scott. In high school Coy developed a love for sports and following graduation, Coy joined the Army where he served his country and played football for the Army Black Knights. Upon completing his service, Coy continued playing football at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was the first football player to letter all four years while playing right tackle for the McNeese State Cowboys. Coy graduated from McNeese in 1959 with a master’s degree in physical education.
In 1957, Coy married his wife of 57 years, Barbara Jean Cusimano Scott, and began a family in Franklin, Louisiana. Coy spent some of the most rewarding years of his life as the head coach and athletic director at Franklin Sr. High School. In 1976, Coy moved to Lakeland, Florida to venture into business ownership with A & T Fixture & Cabinets, Inc., thus beginning his 33 year career in the cabinet industry retiring in 2009. Coy was a 32 Degree Mason and member of Lakeland Lodge #91 and Shriner with the Egypt Temple Shrine in Tampa, FL.
Predeceased by his two sons, Phillip Oren Scott and David Michael Scott; his parents, Oren and Vada Scott; three sisters, Dorothy Harper, Kathleen Owens, Sharon Rackler; and one brother, Mack Scott. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Cusimano Scott; son, Kim L. Scott; daughter and son-in-law, Shawna and Bart Butler; six grandchildren, Katherine Scott, Justin Scott, Austin (Tania) Butler, Ashley Butler, Jordan Scott and Jake Scott; one brother, Richard Scott; two sisters, Jean (Wayne) Alexander and Mary (Doug) Robertson; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and his loving grand-dogs, Duke and Buddy.
A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 26, at 1 p.m., in the Chapel at First United Methodist Church, 72 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland, FL 33801.
