Morgan City man has two attempted murder charges

A 48-year-old Morgan City man was charged Saturday with two counts of attempted first degree murder stemming from a Nov. 14 incident where he is accused of entering a residence and firing several shots at another man and a woman, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
Carlos Cespedes, 48, of Victor II Boulevard in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:02 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for two counts of attempted first degree murder, a warrant for aggravated burglary, a warrant for theft of a motor vehicle and a warrant for violation of a protective order.
Cespedes was charged on several outstanding warrants based on an investigation into a Nov. 14 incident. In that complaint, officers responded to a Seventh Street residence in regards to shots being fired. Officers located a male and female victim who were unharmed, but said that the woman had entered her residence and found an acquaintance, Cespedes inside, Banks said.
Witnesses advised that Cespedes had fired several shots at the woman and a man, Banks said. The female victim advised she was chased and at least one other shot was fired by Cespedes as he chased her, Banks said. Cespedes is accused of taking the male victim’s vehicle and then fleeing the scene.
Cespedes, who was under a restraining order banning him from any contact with the female victim, was identified as the suspect, the chief said.
The aggravated burglary charge is due to Cespedes entering the residence armed with a weapon, Police Spokesman Capt. James Blair said.
During the investigation, detectives were able to secure information that led them to the location of the suspect in the New Orleans area, Banks said.
The Attorney General’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Task Force was able to use that information in capturing the fugitive, Banks said. Detectives with the Morgan City Police Department traveled to New Orleans where they located Cespedes and transported him back to the Morgan City Police Department where he remains in jail with bail set at $500,000.
