Amelia man charged with tire slashings

A 28-year-old Amelia man was charged Tuesday with slashing the tires of more than 30 vehicles in Amelia, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
Jose Ojeda, 28, of the 100 block of Westside Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 4:37 p.m. Tuesday for 31 warrants on the charge of criminal damage to property. Detectives investigated a rash of tire slashings in the Amelia area on Monday, Hebert said.
More than 30 vehicles had been reported as being damaged. Detectives made contact with Ojeda, who admitted to puncturing vehicle tires on several streets in Amelia, Hebert said. Ojeda is currently held at the parish jail on unrelated charges. No bail is set.
