A 26-year-old Morgan City woman was charged with child desertion Wednesday morning after leaving her three children at home alone, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Kaylynn C. Rodriquez, 26, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:06 a.m. Wednesday for child desertion.
Rodriquez was arrested after officers were dispatched to a La. 182 apartment in regards to several juveniles being abandoned in the residence. Officers arrived to locate three children, ages 7 years old, 2 years old, and 1 year old, Banks said. Officers began to investigate and identified Kaylynn Rodriguez as the mother of the children.
As officers continued their investigation, they eventually located Rodriquez, who initially attempted to conceal her identity by giving a false name. Rodriquez was found to be in an intoxicated condition. She was jailed. The children were turned over to a concerned adult relative, Banks said.
Banks reported the following arrests:
—Richard K. Hawkins, 39, of Birch Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:24 p.m. Tuesday on warrants for simple battery and aggravated battery.
Hawkins turned himself in at the police department. The warrants were obtained by detectives in reference to an investigation into an alleged incident that was reported Dec. 21, in which Hawkins is accused of striking another person with a bicycle during an altercation. Hawkins was released after posting $1,000 cash bail.
—Juan R. Torres Jr., 25, of Stacy Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:48 a.m. Tuesday for possession of Schedule I marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers received a complaint from staff at Teche Regional Medical Center in regards to a person being involved in an altercation and arrived to investigate. When officers came into contact with Torres, he removed a suspected cellophane bag of marijuana on him and threw it on the counter telling officers they can take him to jail, Banks said. The officer recovered the evidence, and Torres was jailed.
—Marcus Hatch, 40, of Berwick, was arrested at 10:02 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear for criminal damage to property. Hatch was located at his residence in Berwick and transported to the Morgan City Police Department.
—Christian C. Calamia II, 44, of Harvard Avenue in Harahan, was arrested at 3 p.m. Tuesday on warrants for failure to appear for careless operation, driving while intoxicated second offense, and operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
Calamia turned himself in to officers at the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked on outstanding warrants for the City Court of Morgan City. He was released after posting $5,000 cash bail.
