Think you ought to be in pictures? Here's your chance, Morgan City

You probably shouldn’t hold out for above-the-title billing.

But if you’ve ever wanted to be in the movies, especially if you’re an oil rig worker, your Schwab’s Drug Store moment may come this summer.

Central Casting of New Orleans is looking for men and women of all ethnicities who are over 18 and who have oil rig experience. The company is lining up the cast for an upcoming movie about the BP oil spill, said Priscilla Rodgers, casting assistant.

The movie will be filmed between the end of April and August, and some of that filming is likely to take place in Morgan City.

Rodgers said Central Casting would like to see photos of applicants, especially of applicants on the job, as early as Monday, although that’s not a firm deadline. Pictures can be emailed to Ahochfeld@CentralCasting.com or PRodgers@centralcasting.com.

Anyone interested in being part of this movie or other movies cast by Central Casting Louisiana should like the company’s Facebook page.

Rodgers said she’s prohibited from disclosing other details about the BP spill movie. But the Internet is abuzz with information about plans for a film called “Deepwater Horizon.” The 2010 explosion and fire on the deep-water platform killed 11 people and dumped millions of gallons of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico and onto the Gulf Coast.

The Internet Movie Database says the director will be J.C. Chandor, who received a Best Screenplay Oscar nomination for “Margin Call” in 2011. Chandor also directed “Margin Call” along with “All Is Lost” in 2013 and “A Most Violent Year” in 2014.

Time magazine reported in August that Mark Wahlberg, who had major roles in “The Departed” and “Boogie Nights,” is considering a role as a rig manager who rescues his workers.

Rodgers emphasized Central Casting’s desire to find offshore workers for the movie.

“We want to tell the story of the disaster,” Rodgers said. “We’re looking for real oil rig workers.”
