Grace Christian slips by CHS
PINEVILLE _ The Centerville Bulldogs came up on the short end of a 50-47 loss to the Grace Christian Warriors here Friday in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class B playoffs at the Louisiana College Wildcats Gymnasium.
After a miserable first half in which the Centerville Bulldogs trailed 19-9, CHS managed to put it together in the second half and cut the lead to two points on several occasions but could not overcome Grace Christian and lost 50-47.
The Bulldogs finished their season 7-15.
Grace Christian improves to 31-3 on the season.
Centerville head coach Randy Bergeron felt his team’s offensive woes in the first half led to the Bulldogs’ downfall.
“Our poor offensive first half and our inability to make free throws (16-33) were too much for us to overcome,” Bergeron said. “I was proud of our effort and our refuse-to-quit attitude, but you don’t win games with just that. You have to execute on both sides of the ball and we didn’t do that tonight.”
Lance Howard led the Bulldogs in scoring with 12 points while Cole Candella and Jaylon Williams tallied 11 points each.
Rounding out the scoring for the Centerville Bulldogs were: Marvin Strawder, 7 and Cameron Pogue, 6.
Grace Christian was led in scoring by Antoine Route with 11 points and Elijah Hampton with 10.
