Hanson Tigers prevail over Gueydan

John Higdon and Luke Rodriguez each had at least two hits on the day as the second-ranked Hanson Memorial Tigers defeated the Gueydan Bears, 17-8, Monday in District 7-A at Amar Lancon Field.
Second-ranked Hanson Memorial (14-1, 4-0) will travel to face sixth-ranked St. Ed’s at 5:30 p.m. at UL’s Tigue Field.
Brennan Young (3-1) earned the mound win for the Tigers after going 4.67 innings, allowing two runs on one hit with seven strikeouts and three walks. Josh Sanchez worked two frames, not allowing a run while giving up only two hits while fanning four and walking none. Britt Young pitched one-third of an inning, yielding five earned runs on no hits with one strikeout and four walks.
Gueydan built a 2-0 lead over the Tigers in the top half of the first inning. Hanson struck back with four runs in the bottom half of the opening frame to take a 4-2 lead of which it never relinquished.
Higdon led the Tigers at the plate with a 3 for 4 performance with three RBI and two runs. Rodriguez was 2 for 4 with three RBI and one run.
Other leading hitters for the Tigers were: Jacob Hebert, 1 for 1, 2 runs; Luke Lancon, 3 runs; Chase Mensman, 1 for 2, RBI; Bo Barrilleaux, 2 runs; Clint Young, 3 runs; Spencer Bishop, run.
