Morgan City names police chief tonight

The Morgan City mayor and City Council are set to select a new police chief at today’s council meeting.
The council will meet at 6 p.m. at the City Court Building.
Mayor Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi will make the police chief appointment, which requires City Council approval.
The police department has been without a police chief since former Police Chief Michael Banks retired Dec. 31, 2014.
The six applicants who interviewed for the position are Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr., Capt. James Blair, Lt. Teddy Liner, Lt. Chad Adams, former Assistant Police Chief Glenn Blanco, and State Police Troop C Special Operations Supervisor Troy Leonard. All six candidates passed the state civil service police chief’s test.
Guests on the agenda include C.E. Bourg concerning a parking ordinance. The council will hear a report on the Lakeside Sidewalk Project.
Resolutions on the agenda include one that will provide for the construction of the Wharf Improvement project in the amount of $1.683 million. The contractor who offered that low bid was Larry Doiron Inc.
Another resolution on the agenda will provide for supplemental funding regarding the Morgan City – Ice and Cold Storage facility with Wharf Improvements. The city submitted an application to receive funding for the project under the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Infrastructure program.
The project is designed to alleviate existing conditions at the wharf “which pose a serious and immediate threat to the health or welfare of the community,” according to the resolution.
Resolutions to provide for a Louisiana Energy and Power Authority director and alternate and to allow for an ice vending machine at Lake End Park are also on the agenda.
The council will go through a first reading to amend an ordinance regarding one-way streets. The amendment would affect South Railroad Avenue, which is currently a one-way street from Third Street to Federal Avenue.
If passed, the ordinance would make South Railroad Avenue, just from Second Street to Federal Avenue, a one-way street with travel allowed only from west to east.
