Sheriff: Two caught with drugs after crash

A Patterson teen and a 24-year-old Patterson man were caught with drugs Tuesday after a single-vehicle crash in Morgan City. The teen was also discovered to have a handgun on him, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Tyrique Jones, 17, of the 1500 block of Plum Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:33 a.m. Tuesday on the charges of possession of Schedule I marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance and resisting an officer.
—Chandler Williams, 24, of the 400 block of Williams Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:33 a.m. Tuesday on the charges of possession of Schedule I marijuana third offense and probation violation.
A deputy investigating a single vehicle crash on U.S. 90 in Morgan City made contact with Williams and Jones. The deputy located a partially smoked cigar containing marijuana in the vehicle Williams was driving, Hebert said. The deputy located additional marijuana on him, the sheriff said.
While the deputy was speaking with Jones, the 17-year-old attempted to run away, Hebert said. The deputy apprehended Jones and located a handgun concealed in his pant leg and several small bags of marijuana hidden on him, Hebert said. Jones and Williams were jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 31 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Clement J. Mire, 32, of the 1000 block of Tower Tank Road in Stephensville, was arrested at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for theft and illegal possession of stolen things. The warrant is the result of an investigation into a report of a burglary that occurred in the 200 block of Universe Street in Bayou Vista.
The Sheriff’s Office received the complaint March 3. The complainant stated that a boat engine, boat propellers, and tools were taken from a shed. The detective assigned to the case located some of the stolen items at a local pawn shop and identified Mire as the subject who pawned the items. A warrant was obtained for Mire and he was located in the Assumption parish jail. Mire was transported from the Assumption Parish Detention Center to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville on the warrant. Mire was released after posting $1,500 bail.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Stephen Bias, 50, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:12 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with attempted theft-value $275.
Bias was arrested during an ongoing investigation into a stolen check that was attempted to be cashed at a local business. Bias was jailed. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected, Blair said.
—Melvetra Henry, 22, of Ringgold, was arrested at 2:11 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of simple battery
An officer responded to the area of 11th Street due to a disturbance. An officer located Henry, who advised that she had struck a man at the residence, Blair said. Henry admitted to officers that during the disturbance she struck the man several times, Blair said. Henry was jailed.
—Kaylynn Rodriguez, 25, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 6 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging her with probation violation.
Kaylynn Rodriguez was arrested by officers in the Sixth Ward City Court of Morgan City on warrants for probation violation. Kaylynn Rodriguez was jailed.
—Oscar Rodriguez, 21, of Everett Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:58 p.m. Tuesday on warrants charging him with failure to appear for reckless operation, no driver’s license, no insurance, no vehicle registration and switched license plate.
A patrol officer conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 90. During the stop, the officer identified Oscar Rodriguez as a passenger in the vehicle. A warrants check revealed that Oscar Rodriguez had several outstanding warrants for failing to appear in the Sixth Ward City Court of Morgan City. Oscar Rodriguez was jailed.
—Kyle Rhett, 24, of General MacArthur Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:18 a.m. today on a warrant charging him with no driver’s license.
Patrol officers located Rhett in the area of General MacArthur Street. The officer knew that Rhett had an outstanding warrant from the Sixth Ward City Court of Morgan City. Rhett was jailed.
—Jeffery Kopszywa, 36, of Morgan City, was arrested at 2:23 a.m. today on the charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and red light violation.
An officer patrolling the area of La. 182 near Myrtle Street observed a vehicle fail to stop at a red traffic signal. The officer conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Kopszywa. The officer suspected Kopszywa had been drinking and performed a field sobriety test, which he did poorly on, Blair said.
Kopszywa registered 0.116 grams-percent blood-alcohol concentration on the Intoxilyzer 5000 test. Kopszywa was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
