Police investigating unauthorized credit card use

The Morgan City Police Department is investigating the unauthorized use of credit cards in the area.
During the investigation a description of a possible vehicle of interest has been obtained by the investigators. The vehicle is a 2008 Ford Explorer Sport Track, silver in color with a Florida license plate, police said. The truck may be occupied by a Hispanic male around 50 years of age with a bald head and muscular build, police said. The subject may a have a large wrist watch and a tattoo on his left ankle. If you should observe the vehicle or the subject please contact your local law enforcement. Do not approach the subject for any reason, police said.
The Police Department received several complaints over the past few days in regards to improper charges involving various bank accounts belonging to the victims, police said. Residents are urged to be vigilant and cautious when using credit/debt cards at retail businesses. Police offer the following tips to help protect your identity:
1. Examine gas pumps for any suspicious devices or broken
locks. These devices are capable of creating a cloned card.
2. Do not give your account number over the telephone unless
you have previously conducted business with the person or
it is a reputable establishment.
3. Store your cards separately from your wallet or purse. Only
travel with cards necessary for your outing.
4. Keep an eye on your card during any transaction until your
card is returned to you.
5. Never sign a blank receipt. Fill in each blank with a line or
mark.
6. Save receipts to compare.
7. Open bills promptly to detect any instance of fraud.
8. Report any questionable charges to your financial institution.
