Morgan City resident faces battery, drug charges
A 36-year-old Morgan City man was arrested after an alleged verbal altercation that turned physical with his wife, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Nathaniel Washington, 36, of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:57 p.m. Thursday on the charges of domestic abuse battery, possession of Schedule I synthetic marijuana (second offense), and violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on Levee Road in regard to a domestic disturbance. When officers arrived, the victim stated that she and her husband, Washington, had gotten into a verbal altercation that later turned physical.
According to reports, officers observed abrasions in the facial area of the victim that were consistent with her statements.
Officers were able to locate Washington inside the residence and placed him under arrest. Officers also located synthetic marijuana in Washington’s possession. Washington was transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking. Washington was jailed.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Jasmine M. Thomas, 17, of Canary Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:22 p.m. Thursday on the charge of disturbing the peace by alarming the public.
—Javien J. Francis, 18, of Canary Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:22 p.m. Thursday on the charges of disturbing the peace by alarming the public, on a warrant for failure to appear (two counts), and on a warrant for probation violation. Officers were dispatched to a residence on Canary Street to locate a female, identified as Thomas.
When officers arrived, contact was made with Francis. Francis was asked about Thomas and he began to yell and use profanities outside of the residence. Thomas was located at the residence and she began to cause a disturbance.
A local warrants check was done on Francis and it was determined that he held active warrants for the 6th Ward City Court.
Both Francis and Thomas were placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and were jailed.
—Brodie Romero, 32, of U.S. 90 in New Iberia, was arrested at 6:45 a.m. today on a warrant for unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling for the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office. Romero was located in the area of La. 70.
A local warrants check was done on Romero and it was determined that he held an active warrant from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office. Romero was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking. Romero was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Guadalupe Maldonado, 61, of the 600 block of Gros Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:52 a.m. today on the charge of simple battery involving domestic with medical. Maldonado remains in jail and no bail is set.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 36 complaints and reported no arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
